KATRA, Jan 2: Following a strong protest by the Northern Railway employees over alleged manhandling of their two colleagues, SSP Railway (Katra), A K Mahajan ordered immediate suspension of a GRP Sub-Inspector and an inquiry into the matter.
GRP Sub-Inspector Om Dutt has been suspended for alleged manhandling of two employees of Katra Railway Station last night while Dy SP General Railway Police, Kamlesh Shood will conduct an inquiry into the whole episode for submitting a detailed report.
The incident of alleged manhandling took place last night when a GR Police team asked two Railway employees, namely Ram Veer and Vishibender to shift the dead body of an unidentified woman pilgrim from one of the coaches of DMU, which had reached Katra Station at 9 pm. Refusal of the two employees in shifting the body irked the SI, who allegedly manhandled the duo.
However, the trouble erupted this morning around 10 am after other colleagues of the two employees came to know about the last night incident. Shouting slogans and demanding action against the erring cops, Railway employees suspended work and held a demonstration.
The protesting employees were pacified this afternoon only after SSP Railway (Katra) A K Mahajan reached the spot and ordered an inquiry into the whole episode besides suspension of SI Om Dutt.
Even as the ticket windows remained closed for more than three hours, the protest of Railway employees did not affect train traffic as the matter was resolved before the departure of first train at 2.30 pm.
