SSP Samba Rajesh Sharma told the Excelsior that around 10 pm, a grenade was lobbed on temporary naka party of four police personnel at Nud on Samba-Mansar road. However, the grenade missed intended target and fell in nearby bushes where it exploded without causing any damage to the police party.
“Immediately after the grenade attack, an alarm was sounded and searches conducted in the area and surroundings. Lever of the grenade was recovered from the spot which indicated that it was a Chinese grenade,” Sharma said, adding the searches continued throughout the night and during the day today.
However, no arrests have been made so far.
Presently, there has been no militancy or active militants in Samba district. The grenade attack, however, appeared to be the handiwork of Over Ground Workers (OGWs). In the nineties, Nud had been infiltration route of the militants after crossing Basantar.
