Leh, Dec 23: Lieutenant Governor Ladakh RK Mathur presided as the chief guest during the pre-Losar function organized by Students Association for Village Education (SAVE) Changthang today. Chairman/Chief Executive Councillor LAHDC Leh Gyal P Wangyal was the guest of honour.
Mathur appreciated the common spirit of the people of Ladakh of always willing to give back to the society what they have received and stated that the endeavors of organizations like SAVE which thrives to work towards education and other skill development of youngsters of far-flung areas is laudable.
LG also suggested about the fact of grabbing the opportunity under new Union Territory by overcoming the challenges for the economic and overall growth of the land.
Speaking on the occasion CEC lauded activities of SAVE and stated that their endeavor in the field of sports would facilitate students to participate in national-level events representing UT Ladakh. He also spoke in detail about the importance of girl education. CEC assured of all possible assistance from the Council in the sectors of education and sports whenever needed.
Executive Councillor for Education Konchok Stanzin, President Ladakh Buddhist Association PT Kunzang, Second in Command (2IC) CRPF Rigzin Angmo, BDC Chairperson, Sarpanches, Panchs, and villagers of Changthang region in large number were also present.
While speaking on the occasion, EC Konchok Stanzin requested LG Ladakh about the need of redesigning of educational and medical institutions making them solar energy efficient, a Comprehensive Pashmina Project, Smart Border Management, and also apprised about the efforts being made to strengthen Government-run schools in the Changthang region.
President LBA PT Kunzang also spoke about the valuable services of SAVE and appreciated their contribution towards the society.
Former CEC LAHDC Leh late Dorjey Motup and late Jigmet Gyatso were remembered for their valuable contributions towards SAVE. A powerpoint presentation about the activities and plans of SAVE was also presented. Ambassador of SAVE Tsering Gyurmet Sculptor was facilitated and traditional and modern dance forms by SAVE students made the function colorful.
Meanwhile, Lieutenant Governor Ladakh RK Mathur chaired a meeting with a team of officers from Ministry of Ayurvedic, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homeopathy (AYUSH) GoI, headed by Secretary Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha today.
The meeting discussed about the newly sanctioned National Research Institute of Sowa-Rigpa and other issues related to it in the Union Territory of Ladakh.
Commissioner/ Secretary for Health & Medical Education Rigzin Samphel was also present in the meeting.
