Govt won’t scrap IWT: Omar

SRINAGAR, Sept 23:  Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today said the Indus Water Treaty (IWT) was an abomination and should never have gone through, but the NDA Government was not going to scrap it, a day after Centre hinted at revisiting the pact with Pakistan if it does not act against terror.
“It (IWT) was an abomination and should never have gone through. J-K has suffered long on its account but this Government isn’t going to scrap it,” Omar tweeted.
The opposition National Conference (NC) working president said the treaty has survived four wars and nothing will happen to it.
“Will stick my neck out and say that nothing will happen to the Indus Water Treaty. It survived 4 wars & a J-K assembly unanimous resolution,” he said in another tweet.
