Srinagar, June 16: The Central Government will hand over the Centaur Hotel in Srinagar on the banks of Dal lake to the State Government as senior State officials are going to finalise the take over tomorrow in New Delhi in the meeting with the Ministry of Civil Aviation.
It may be mentioned here that Governor Satya Pal Malik in his press conference earlier this week had said that Centaur Hotel will be handed over back to the state soon.
Chief Secretary B V R Subrahmanyam, Commissi-oner/Secretary Tourism Rigzin Samphel and other officials of the Finance Department are holding deliberations with the Ministry of Civil Aviation in New Delhi to complete the formalities for hand and take over tomorrow.
The negotiations between the State government and Ministry of Civil Aviation was going on for last several years for the take over of the prime property.
Set-up in 1982, the hotel located adjacent to Sher-e-Kashmir International Convention Centre in Srinagar has been one of the major attractions for domestic and foreign tourists visiting Kashmir. The official delegates received by the State Government from different States and abroad throughout the year usually prefer to stay in Centaur owing to its scenic surroundings.
But over the years it has not been renovated and is in bad shape. The 252 room hotel needs massive renovations.
