NEW DELHI : The government will “revisit, review and recalibrate” the entire Preferential Market Access (PMA) Policy for domestically manufactured electronic goods, particularly in private sector, and will not issue any notifications till the Policy is reviewed.
The decision was taken at a high-level meeting at the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) here which was attended by National Security Advisor Shiv Shankar Menon, Cabinet Secretary Ajit Seth and Mr Pulok Chatterjee, Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister, among others.
“…A decision was taken to review the Policy for Providing Preference to Domestically Manufactured Electronic Goods (PMA Policy), particularly PMA in the private sector,” the PMO said today.
The meeting, after detailed discussions on the current provisions of the PMA Policy and pros and cons of alternative approaches to handling security related products, decided that the entire Policy would be “revisited and reviewed and recalibrated” and submitted to the Cabinet, the PMO said.
No notifications on PMA in the private sector on security-related products would be issued till the Policy is reviewed and any notifications in the draft stage would be withheld.
The revised proposal would incorporate a detailed provision for project/product/sector specific security standards, alternative modes of security certification and a roadmap for build-up of domestic testing capacity. (AGENCIES)
