JAMMU, Aug 29: The Government has decided to reduce the qualifying service for promotion from non -gazetted to gazetted posts in all the services so that the promotions are facilitated and gazetted posts in the promotion quota do not remain vacant.
A circular to this effect was issued by General Administrative Department (GAD) recently. The circular was issued as the recruitment rules of almost all the services provide for a qualifying service of five to seven years for promotion from highest non gazetted cadre to the gazetted cadre. But initial gazetted cadre posts in various services remain vacant as officials in the feeding cadres do not possess the required qualifying services leaving the Government with no option but to reduce the qualifying service.
The GAD has urged all the administrative secretaries to Government to furnish information with copies to ARI and Trainings Department. The GAD has also issued a format in this regard.
