JAMMU, Aug 14: Responding to the directions of Supreme Court pertaining to Kishtwar clashes, the State Government has asked all concerned departments particularly Home Department to provide all details pertaining to the circumstances that led to the violence and subsequent steps initiated by the administration to control any further damage.
Reliable sources informed that the State Government would enlist all measures taken to curb the violence in Kishtwar and its possible ripple effect in other districts of the State. “The affidavit to be submitted by the Government before the Supreme Court on August 21 in reference to the Public Interest Litigation (PIL) case titled Sudesh Dogra Vs Union of India assumes significance in view of the fact that the issue had been debated at length in Parliament”, sources added.
Meanwhile, sources based in New Delhi also confirmed that no fresh directions had been issued regarding the providing compensation to those injured in the incident of violence in Kishtwar and surrounding areas.
The State Government had yesterday informed the Apex Court that even as it is taking all measures to control the situation, compensation worth Rs 5 lakh would be given to families to those killed in the clashes and upto Rs 2 lakh would be provided to people, whose properties were damaged.
Counsel for State Government, Sunil Fernandes, when contacted said, “no fresh directions or guidelines had been issued today as had been reported in a section of media. The Court yesterday had only recorded the statement made by the counsel on behalf of the State and taken notice of the steps taken by the Government to curb violence”.
