Speaking to reporters during his visit to north Kashmir’s Kupwara, Wani said the freeze on posts was linked to the transition of Rehbar-e-Taleem (ReT) teachers but assured that the process to unlock vacancies is underway.
“In the coming time, some posts will be defreezed; the Government is working on it” he said.
He maintained that despite shortages, the pupil-teacher ratio (PTR) in Kashmir remains better than the national average, adding that gaps are currently being managed through rationalisation of staff.
The DSEK was in the district to attend a scheduled parent-teacher interaction under a newly formulated departmental planner.
He said the department received “useful suggestions” from parents aimed at improving teaching standards and school functioning.
Parents, however, flagged inadequate teacher availability and subject-specific gaps in several schools across the district during the meetings.
On Cluster Resource Coordinators (CRCs), Wani said their services will continue and formal orders will be issued shortly.
“Directions have already been given to continue them and utilise their services,” he said.
He further said recruitment and promotions are underway in multiple subjects, stressing that lists for lecturer posts have already been published, with some candidates appointed and others in process.
“Promotions, particularly in Political Science and Geography, are also ongoing,” he added.
