JAMMU, June 18:The Government today announced conduct of special camps for admission of students affected by closure of schools run by Falah-e-Aam Trust (FAT), an offshoot of banned Jammu-e-Islami (JeI) and deployment of additional teachers in the schools where these students will be admitted.
Officials said only 22 educational institutions have been affected by the order and 12 of them were already closed while number of students studying there was only 1915.
“As per information provided by the Director School Education Kashmir (DSEK) and Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education (JKBOSE), only 22 institutions are affected by the Government order shutting down FAT schools. However, 12 schools were closed before the order itself, leaving only 10 which were shut,” the officials said.
They said only 1915 students will be affected and their admissions and academics will be duly taken care in a mission mode.
They added that special camps are being organized for admissions of these students in designated nearby Higher Secondary, High or Middle Schools run by the Government.
“Care is also being taken to give additional Masters and Lecturers in these schools,” they said, adding as per need, additional classrooms and related facilities are being created in a mission mode so that their studies don’t suffer.
“Further decisions regarding other similar schools will be taken after taking into account all factors,” according to the officials.

The FAT was set up by Jamaat-e-Islami and registered by the Government on July 31, 1972. However, on February 28, 2019, the then Union Home Ministry headed by Rajnath Singh banned Jamaat-e-Islami Jammu and Kashmir on grounds of being in close touch with militants. Police and Magistrates had then sealed several Jamaat-e-Islami offices across Jammu and Kashmir and also issued notices to schools run by FAT asking them to close down.
However, later, the Government had come out with a clarification that these schools will not be closed down.
Sources said the State Investigation Agency (SIA) during investigation of cases against SIA has come across series of evidence linking FAT-run schools with foreign funding, circulation of jihadi literature and polluting minds of teenagers prompting the Government to shut down the educational institutions.
While the SIA and police had arrested number of Jamaat-e-Islami activists when the organization was banned, several others are still on the run.
The SIA has also came across alleged gross illegalities, outright frauds and mass scale encroachment of Government lands by FAT.
