RAMBAN, Sept 23: Two persons including a Government teacher have been arrested for raping two sisters in Shagan area, falling under the jurisdiction of Banihal Police Station. However, the angry mob vandalized Police Post Khari and also damaged the vehicles of the rapists.
According to police sources, two persons travelling in two different vehicles offered lift to two sisters from Nachlana and later took them to a secluded place in Shagan area, where they raped the girls.
After getting information, police team reached the spot and arrested the accused, who have been identified as Rayees Ahmed Wani (Government teacher), son of Abdul Jabbar Wani and Tariq Saleem Wani, son of Saif-ud-Din Wani, both residents of Changloo, Tehsil Banihal.
As people came to know that the girls, who were raped were locals, they assembled at Police Post Khari and held protest. They demanded handing over the accused to them and entered into heated argument with the cops.
The irked mob vandalized the Police Post Khari and also damaged the vehicles of the accused bearing registration numbers JK19-3087 and JK19-4395.
Later, senior police officers rushed to the spot and pacified the mob by assuring them of strict action against the accused. On the assurance, the protestors dispersed.
Sensing more trouble, police shifted the girls to Ramsoo Police Station for medical examination, which will be conducted tomorrow, while the accused were lodged in Police Station Banihal.
A case under FIR Number 156/17 under Section 376 RPC was registered at Banihal Police Station against the accused and investigation started, while a case under FIR Number 157/17 under Section 147, 148, 336, 436 and 427 RPC also stands registered with Police Station Banihal against the mob for ransacking Police Post Khari and damaging vehicles.
Meanwhile, Chief Education Officer (CEO) Ramban has ordered suspension of Rayees Ahmed Wani, a teacher posted at Government Higher School, Chanjloo, tehsil Banihal for his involvement in rape case.
