SRINAGAR, June 11: Doctors have blamed the Government for shielding Director Health Dr Sallem ur Rehman who has been accused by a nurse of trying to sexually molesting her at his office.
Doctors Association Kashmir (DAK) President Dr Nisar ul Hassan in a statement said that Government is shielding Dr Saleem ur Rehman and others involved in molestation on a staff nurse.
Dr Nisar also accused the police of playing to the gallery of the accused director.
“Police first delayed the registration of FIR and persuaded the victim to make compromise with the accused. They played down ingredients of the complaint and booked accused in a much lighter offence. Police hours after lodging FIR gave a clean chit to the accused by denying the charges leveled against him,” he said.
“The Government instead of taking action against Dr Saleem who is charged of serious allegations allowed him to continue with his position. He is allowed to malign the image of the victim through his accomplices. He is allowed to issue statements to media to accuse victim of low morals,” the DAK president said.
“Majority of the cases of sexual assaults in Kashmir go unnoticed because of stigmatization and character assassination of victims,” he said, and pledged to stand by the victim for taking a daring stand against the powerful and mighty.
