Govt seeks week’s time to solve issues of transporters

JAMMU, June 4: The Government has sought one week’s time from the transporters and operators to solve their issues and also assured to take up a few issues with the Union Government.
A meeting of the delegation of All J&K Transport Welfare Association led by its chairman, TS Wazir was held with the Commissioner/ Secretary Transport, Hirdesh Kumar Singh in presence of Transport Commissioner, Pardeep Kumar, Deputy Commissioner Jammu, Sushma Chouhan, RTO Jammu Dhanantar Singh and Assistant Commissioner Jammu, Jasmeet Singh here this afternoon. All the pending issues of the transport operators and transporters were discussed in detail.
Giving detail, Wazir said transporters and operators have withdrawn their indefinite supplies suspension call after request from the Government. Today, the meeting was fixed with the intervention of DC Jammu and RTO Jammu with the Commissioner/ Secretary Transport and Transport Commissioner, J&K. He said the major issues of the transporters with regard to economic package to drivers/ cleaners and some concessions to the transporters were discussed in detail.
Total 17 issues through a memorandum were submitted before the Secretary Transport and Transport Commissioner. They assured that all those issues which come under the domain of Transport department will be resolved immediately while other issues will be discussed with the Advisor R R Bhatnagar and then taken up with the Union Government for early resolution. The Government sought at least one week’s time from the Association for solving their issues, Wazir said.
He said Association has demanded resumption of private transport service, minimum 50 % revision in passenger fare and freight rates, withdrawn of Toll Plazas like other UTs in the country, waive off interest, fee, taxes insurance etc for minimum 6 months, provide economic package to transport operators, drivers, cleaners; withdraw illegal Lorry Adda fee at National Highways etc.
The meeting which started at around 1 pm lasted for nearly two hours. The Association has assured to continue essential supplies in J&K and hoped that their issues would be resolved within one week.
