SRINAGAR, Nov 29: Even as the authorities have directed the students to attend the schools for the fresh session across Kashmir, there still are scores of schools where the students have not been provided with textbooks.
The problem is persistent particularly in South Kashmir where students have been deprived of fresh textbooks meant for the new session in the absence of which their studies are taking a further hit.
Several students enrolled in various schools in South Kashmir said that they have not been given the textbooks even as they resumed their classes from November 2.
“I have borrowed books from a friend who has now in class 8 and I am using those old textbooks as the schools have not provided us with new textbooks,” said one of the students at Govt Boys Middle School, Badigam Aishmuqam.
The parents whose wards are enrolled in Govt schools believe that while they do not have the resources to admit their children to Private Schools, the authorities need to take the issue of the non-availability of textbooks seriously.
The teachers present at schools in South Kashmir express their ignorance over the issue and cut a sorry figure by saying that the supply of the textbooks must have been delayed due to COVID.
Excelsior tried to reach out to Director School Education Kashmir Tasaduq Hussain for officials comment over the issue, but he did not respond.
