JAMMU, Jan 17: The Finance Department of the Union Territory Government today released Rs 13.69 crore for completion of works already undertaken under Constituency Development Scheme (CDS) of former Members of Legislative Council (MLCs).
The unspent balances in favour of the MLCs out of CDS earlier released in September 2019 were not contra-credited by the respective District Development Commissioners into the Deposit Head of Development and Welfare Funds.
The former MLCs in whose favour funds have been released included Charanjeet Singh Khalsa (Rs 1.34 cr), Ajatshatru Singh (Rs 1.44 cr), Ashok Khajuria (Rs 1.38 cr), Ramesh Arora (Rs 1.48 crore), Balbir Singh (Rs 1.14 cr), Girdhari Lal Raina (Rs 1.3 cr), Vikram Randhawa (Rs 1.4 cr), Pardeep Sharma (Rs 1.5 cr), Surinder Kumar Choudhary (Rs 1.1 cr), Vibodh Gupta (Rs 8.5 lakh) and Sajjad Ahmad Kichloo (Rs 1.5 cr).
“The funds will be utilized by respective District Development Commissioners subject to fulfillment of conditions including their spending strictly as per the CDS guidelines,’’ an official order issued by Financial Commissioner (Finance), Dr Arun Kumar Mehta said.
It may be mentioned here that the Central Government had abolished the Legislative Council of Jammu and Kashmir in J&K Reorganization Act. The MLCs had ceased to be members of the House from October 31, the day Jammu and Kashmir was formally bifurcated into the two Union Territories of J&K and Ladakh.
