MARWAH (KISHTWAR), Oct 3: Minister of State for Home and I&C, Sajjad Ahmad Kichloo has assured the families affected by recent flood fury in various parts of Kishtwar district of immediate relief and rehabilitation under a special package.
The Minister said this while chairing a meeting of district officers here to assess the loss suffered due to devastating floods that hit the State in September.
District Development Commissioner, Javed Ahmad Khan, DIG DKR, Ashkoor Wani, SSP Kishtwar, Sanjay Kotwal, ADDC Kishtwar, A S Chib, and other concerned district officers including that of PHE, I&FC and PDD attended the meeting.
Addressing the officers, the Minister stated that four villages of Chanjer in Marwah, Anjana in Nagseni, Ongai in Atholi and Chatroo have been severely damaged in the floods and a large number of families have been rendered homeless. He was informed that an amount of Rs 10.08 crore has so far been released to DC Kishtwar for temporary restoration and payment of relief to the affected families and the Divisional Administration had been requested to visit the affected areas and release additional Rs 13.02 crore for rehabilitation and compensation of those people who have lost everything to the flood fury.
Stating that Chief Minister Omar Abdullah had already sanctioned Rs 200 crore each to Kashmir and Jammu divisions for immediate relief and rehabilitation of those districts affected by recent floods, he said the Government will leave no stone unturned to fully compensate the families who have lost their homes and properties in the floods. “The State Government has prepared a memorandum of losses, which after the approval of the Cabinet, will be sent to Government of India for release of funds to fully rehabilitate the flood sufferers,” he added.
The Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar, Javed Ahmad Khan, has prepared an Action Plan for rehabilitation and restoration of the affected areas and demanded Rs 115.73 crore for rescue, relief and rehabilitation of the victims of floods that hit Kishtwar district.
The plan proposed by DC Kishtwar envisages a component of disaster management contingency plan where-under he has demanded tents and establishment of emergency health-care centre in the district. This is essentially required due to the hypersensitivity of the district on account of frequent earthquakes, geo-physical features and topography of the area.
Kichloo stated that the normal relief, rehabilitation and restoration measures can hardly suffice to meet the actual requirement of these areas in view of the massive damages caused and threat perception to the inhabitants of these areas. “The normal SDRF norms-based rehabilitation cannot suffice the actual requirement of restoration and rehabilitation in the villages which have been largely damaged,” the Minister stated.
Later, the Minister, along with a team of officers, visited the flood-affected areas where he interacted with the victim families.
