BHADARWAH, Nov 11: Demanding immediate withdrawal of recent Government order asking people to surrender their licenced guns, Shri Sanatan Dharam Sabha (SSDS) Bhadarwah termed District Magistrate’s order totally unacceptable and without considering the security of people living in hills.
SDS, president, Ved Kumar Kotwal along with senior office bearers including general secretary, Neeraj Singh Manhas and Advisor Kotwal, Des Raj while addressing a press conference here today termed the order totally illogical.
“DDC Doda, Anshul Garg’s recent order to surrender all the licenced weapons, has been a cause of serious concern especially among the village people living in far-off areas without any security,” said president SSDS Bhadarwah,Ved Kumar Kotwal.
“In the given circumstances Government order to surrender licenced guns is totally unacceptable, he said,. We are requesting them to withdraw the order immediately otherwise we will be compelled to come on streets. Come what may, but we will not part away with our licenced weapons at any cost,” Kotwal added,
He said that the order has been passed in haste and administration is repeating the mistake they committed during militancy.
“In early 90’s during the onset of militancy, similar orders were passed by administration forcing people to surrender their licenced weapons and most of them were never returned.
Licenced weapons are meant for self-defense and by forcing us to surrender the same, we are being deprived of our basic rights,” Kotwal added.
It is notable to mention here that after Government declared district Doda militancy free in 2006, most of the security pickets in towns and villages were removed.
Demanding immediate withdrawal of the order, general secretary, SSDS Neeraj Singh Manhas said, “instead of forcing people to surrender their licenced guns, need of the hour is to strengthen security by restoring the disbanded SOG and reinstalling all the CRPF and Army pickets in district Doda.”
In view of forthcoming Panchayat elections, DDC Doda Anshul Garg has passed an order No 2714-22/DM/Doda on 05/11/2018, asking people to surrender their licenced weapons at their respective police stations from November 12.
