JAMMU, Jan 18:  The opposition members in the Upper House today lodged protest against the Power Ministry for its non-seriousness and casual reply with regard to revival of Mohura heritage power project near in Uri in district Baramulla.
Congress  Member, Ghulam Nabi Monga raised the issue during Question Hour and fired salvo on the Government  asking what steps were being taken to revive this oldest hydel power project of J&K state. Monga said he had been raising  this question for the last about five years but every time a similar and casual reply is given by the Government.
Minister for  Revenue Abdul Rehman Veeri was responding on behalf of Dy Chief Minister ( Minister I/C Power).
Monga asked the reasons for delay in submitting DPR for reviving Mohura  Power House in Uri and steps taken to revive it. He also pressed the Government to name the agency involved for preparing DPR but the minister avoided the reply but later maintained that same agency will do itself.
The Minister said 11.33 cusecs of discharge is required which needed to be released by NHPC from Uri-I  barrage. “After receiving the assurance from NHPC about the discharge, DPR was updated by JKSPDC. A Consultant has been engaged for the updation of DPR to maintain this heritage project which has  a capacity of 9 MWs, Veeri maintained.
Not satisfied with the reply, Monga wanted to discuss the matter in the House but the PDD Minister was not present. He alleged that Minister was not giving proper reply. There was no work on ground and no agency has been engaged. The work on water channel has also not been started.
The Minister  stood up and they both were engaged in the heated exchanges. Some NC and Congress members  also pressed the Government for correct and proper reply. “The minister concerned, who we have not seen in the House, has submitted a wrong and incomplete reply,” Monga alleged.
