Govt not serious in solving Kashmir issue: Vakil

Excelsior Correspondent

SRINAGAR, Aug 1: Former minister Abdul Gani Vakil today alleged that neither Centre nor the State Government is serious in creating peaceful atmosphere in the State.
He said it is shocking that till today no step has been taken towards confidence building measures.
“We have never seen such a inexperience, non- serious and such a weak Government in the State,” Vakil added.
He asked how can we expect improvement in the present situation when the Government is silent on initiating dialogue with Hurriyat leaders. No probe has been ordered in the recent killings and injuries and no ban has been implemented on pellet guns. No steps were taken to release detainees and nothing has been done regarding removal of AFSPA from some districts by the Central Government as well.
It is unfortunate that Government has not even announced any e-gratia/ relief to those killed in recent protests. He warned both Central and the State Government that if they continued to be non- serious and silent in taking above mentioned CBMs, the situation will further deteriorate which could not be controlled by the present weak Government.
Mr Vakil also expressed surprise over complete silence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He said it is unfortunate that PM of the Country is silent on the prevailing situation in Kashmir while the whole world is speaking about it. He said recently in ‘Mann Ki Baat show on Radio by Prime Minister it was shocking that PM did not utter a single word for the people of the State this shows how Central Government is completely non serious in resolving Kashmir issue.
Vakil reiterated his demand on initiating dialogue with all including Hurriyat. He said dialogue is the only platform where all the issues will be resolved. He said any delay by Central Government in initiating dialogue with Hurriyat is not going to bear fruitful results as the confrontation has always led to destruction.
