Govt for “new museum” on all PMs at Teen Murti Estate: Minister

NEW DELHI, Dec 18: The Government is considering a proposal for the construction and setting up of a new museum on all the Prime Ministers of India on the premises of the Teen Murti Estate here, Culture Minister Mahesh Sharma informed Parliament today.
Sharma told the Lok Sabha that the museum will reflect the life and times of all Indian prime ministers and highlight their contributions to the nation.
“The proposed museum on the Prime Ministers of India will showcase the life and works and significant contribution of all the Prime Ministers of India to nation building. The idea behind the concept is to have a dedicated museum highlighting the contribution of all the PMs of India”, said Sharma.
The written statement from the minister is significant as it comes amidst opposition from certain sections over whether the Nehru Memorial Museum and Library (NMML) at Teen Murti Bhavan should remain the preserve of India’s first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru, or if room should be made for other prime ministers.
Sharma’s statement in Parliament indicates that there will be no changes in the present structure, but the “construction” of a “new museum” in the premises, virtually resolves the issue. (PTI)
