JAMMU, Sept 19: Government is making concerted efforts for promotion of agriculture and dairy industry so that milk produced by farmers is properly marketed to help them get adequate returns on the produce.
This was stated by Minister for Animal and Sheep Husbandry and Fisheries, Abdul Ghani Kohli while speaking during a convention organized by Jammu and Kashmir Agriculture Entrepreneurship Development Association (JKAEDA) for the benefit of farmers and dairy farmers.
Vice Chairman Kisan Advisory Board, Daljeet Singh Chib was also present on the occasion.
The Minister stressed the need to enhance milk production by making use of latest know how in the field and said that cooperative societies can be a major step towards making this a financially rewarding business avenue.
He also said that for giving boost to poultry sector, a Model Poultry Village will be established in each constituency which will generate employment opportunities, besides giving boost to the poultry sector.
Kohli also said that Government is contemplating to establish new layer farms and broiler farms besides new hatcheries of layers and broiler birds.
Underscoring the need for providing self employment opportunities to the rural masses and especially the youth in the fisheries sector, the Minister asked the concerned officers to identify suitable sites for constructing fish ponds in the district.
He stressed upon the youth of the rural areas to avail the benefits of the Centrally Sponsored Schemes to start their own income generating units.
On the occasion, the representatives of various organizations projected their demands including setting up of milk booths, mini sheep farms in every district, veterinary doctors in sub-centers, quality check of cattle feed, enhancement of agricultural budget, procurement of crops, insurance of livestock, solar pumps in each district, development in poultry sector etc.
