Govt keen to develop backward, Kandi areas: Sham

JAMMU, Aug 26 : Seeking people’s cooperation to accomplish Government’s determination to reach out the neglected and ignored areas of the state, Minister for Health, Horticulture and Floriculture, Sham Lal Sharma asserted that the present regime is keen to develop backward and kandi areas as per its commitment with the people.
Addressing a large public meeting at Gurha Talab (Ambaran) Akhnoor, Mr. Sham said that providing all basic amenities to the people across the state like safe drinking water, electricity, healthcare, education and road connectivity is priority of the Coalition Government.
Regarding refugees’ issue, Mr. Sham informed that Centre may consider the constitution of a high level committee to be monitored by Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) or the Union Home Ministry to examine all outstanding issues of all categories of refugees and displaced Persons (DPs) in Jammu and Kashmir and work out a package for their one time settlement.
Responding to the local needs and demands, the Minister said that Government is conscious of the difficulties of the people of these far-flung and backward areas and various special schemes are being launched to match their requirements and needs. He said all such special projects and programmes on completion would benefit local populace to a great extent.
Mr. Sham asked the concerned authorities to complete all the development works within stipulated time frame by using quality material, adding Government has resolved to provide concrete assets to the people across the state. He said Government is committed to beautify the surroundings of the Chenab River and construct an alternative road from new bridge to Kathar up to Pouni Parekh.
He announced that Gurah Talab Middle School will be upgraded as soon as possible.
The Minister also distributed 275 Kissan Credit Cards (KCC) among the beneficiaries.
Mr. Sham said that UPA Chairperson, Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh have always evinced keen interest for making Jammu and Kashmir a model state for which this state is being liberally funded for various projects. He said several projects under PMGSY and ADB funded schemes are going apace in the state, adding that various schemes for tackling unemployment have already been launched including SKEWPY and MGNREGA.
