Thereafter, the orders explains, the respective universities shall conduct a written screening test for the candidates to be admitted under the scheme if the number of applicants is more than the number of seats in the said branch that year. However, in case the number of eligible candidates is less than the number of seats available, the admission shall be made on the basis of the merit of the candidates in the Diploma/B Sc courses.
The respective universities shall hold two rounds of counseling and thereafter allot admission to the candidates, to all the available seats in various Government/private Engineering Degree Colleges, order further said.

All other norms and requirements, eligibility and conditions will remain same as approved in the statutes of the concerned university.
According to Dr Smeru Sharma, Principal of GCET- the nodal College of Engineering in Jammu, immediately after issuance of the Government order, the process has been set into motion for making admissions from this session even as class work of semester III has begun from September 3.  “Today I apprised the Director Colleges Development Council, Jammu University as well as Controller Examination about the latest development and after consultation with the Vice-Chancellor tomorrow, advertisement is likely to be issued within 2-3 days inviting applications for admission,” she informed.
While admitting that the screening test for the candidates is likely to take a few days if the number of applicants is more, Dr Smeru Sharma, however, hoped that the process would be completed as early as possible.
The Commissioner Secretary, Higher Education Department, Sarita Chouhan also said that the University and GCET  are  apparently  geared up for the exercise and there seems no difficulty in making admissions under Lateral Entry System from this session.
