Govt indifferent to miseries of border people: Bhalla

Excelsior Correspondent
JAMMU, June 4: Ridiculing the BJP for its `fictional accounts’ of achievements and holding celebrations to mark the completion of its four  years in power at a time when the party faced the severest confidence crisis,  former Minister and senior Congress leader Raman Bhalla today said that while Jammu region continued to bleed and boil, the BJP chose to hold festivities so as to celebrate its three years rule with vague, nauseating speeches and slogans of its leaders.
While interacting with people at Jeevan Nagar in Jammu South today,  Bhalla said  that with raging fires having engulfed almost the entire political constituency of BJP, the celebrations by the BJP brigade had come as a rude shocker for the Jammuites including the supporters and allies of BJP. Hard-working, meritorious and qualified youth of the state are being pushed against the wall because of open political patronage to nepotism and an unprecedented chaos in recruitment, competitive examinations and at service commissions.
Bhalla said the State has highly qualified and talented youth who have given their sweat and blood to be equipped with great academic credentials, but that the present dispensation seemed hell-bent to alienate them after robbing them of their merit and rights. It is the youth that suffers the most due to the government’s inability to preserve and nurture peace and stability. It affects their studies, robs them of employment opportunities and creates a sense of hopelessness that is dangerous considering the circumstances in the state.
PCC leader  said that contrary to the claims of the Centre and State Governments that necessary steps like construction of underground bunkers, shifting of affected people to safer places by providing them land would be taken, the Governments have done nothing practically. He  demanded immediate relief to the affected people and urged the Government to act immediately and move them to safer areas to prevent human loss.
Expressing grave concern over the threat faced by border residents, Bhalla sought immediate measures to instil a sense of security in them and arrangement of shelters. He also expressed dismay over the delay in constructing shelters and devising exigency plans to meet such eventualities. He said the border residents are forced to run for safety but the government is looking the other side.
