JAMMU, July 30: Senior CPI(M) leader and president of State Committee of CITU, Mohd Yousuf Tarigami today lambasted the government over the issue of job guarantees to contractual workers of various power projects.

Addressing CITU convention here today former MLA castigated the J&K administration for introducing smart meters and said, “This is a direct result of privatisation of the electricity. Private companies are bound to increase the power tariff but the consumers are not in a position to pay hefty amounts, triggering protests in almost everywhere in J&K.”
Former MLA said with the installation of Smart meters, people alleged that readings showing very high power consumption and moreover nobody listens to the consumers complaints. Now, advance power bills are being issued to the people which is another mockery of the system. The people of JKUT has been taken for granted by the rulers at the centre. The public is unable to bear the ever increasing burden of taxes and power and water bills, Tarigami asserted.
CITU general secretary Jagdish Sharma said the convention unanimously decided to form a coordination committee of the power project workers, which would meet once in three months to review their demands and decide the next course of action.
Several other Trade Union leaders also spoke on the occasion.
