Govt hints at no extension to JU VC

JAMMU,  Jan 24:  Dropping enough hints of no extension to Prof R D Sharma as Vice-Chancellor of Jammu University, the State Government today directed him  to postpone the selection process and interviews in the university till a decision about his successor is taken by the competent authority.
The direction in this regard has been issued by the  Higher Education Department in the wake of reports that the Jammu University has conveyed  to the Financial Advisor  (Finance Secretary J&K Government) for holding interviews for the post of  Registrar, Controller Examination,  CDC, Administrator Zorawar Auditorium and Assistant Registrars on February  12, 14, 15 and 17 even as the three-year tenure of incumbent Vice-Chancellor is going to expire on March 18, 2018.
Interestingly, the direction to postpone the selection process and interviews has been issued on the intervention of  Prof Amitabh Mattoo, Advisor to the Chief Minister,  who had desired for the same. This has been clearly mentioned in the Higher Education Department communication No. PS/HED/2018/JU, dated 24-01-2018,  to the Vice-Chancellor, which has reference to  communication No. PS/Adv/CM/004/18, dated 09-01-2018, issued by the office of Advisor to the Chief Minister, J&K.
According to the sources, Prof Mattoo had earlier suggested the  Vice-Chancellor through a written communiqué to postpone the selection process till a decision about successor of the later is taken.
However,  sources added, instead of responding to the suggestion, Prof R D Sharma went ahead with his move and purportedly conveyed the Financial Advisor to hold interviews on February 12, 14, 15 and 17 for the top positions as well as for the post of Assistant Registrar.
