Govt hikes Excise duty on liquor

JAMMU, May 20: The State Government has ordered an increase in the Excise duty thus affecting a slight hike in liquor rates in Jammu and Kashmir.
The Excise duty and fee on import/export, possession, manufacture, bottling and sale etc of IMFL/Beer/Ready to Drink Alcoholic Beverages (RTDs) under the provisions of the J&K Excise Act in respect of Civilian and Army/Para-military Force use, shall be levied and paid at the new rates, says a notification, issued yesterday by the State Finance Department.
As per the notification, new rates of duty on Super Deluxe, Deluxe, Premium, Medium and Economy brand are Rs 220, Rs 200, Rs 165, Rs 145 and Rs 130, respectively. The rates of duty on JK Desi Whisky, Beer and RTD Beverages are Rs 160, Rs 8 and Rs 15, respectively.
