SRINAGAR: The State Government today constituted a group of ministers (GoM) to examine the forest department’s proposal for the preservation of Wular lake.
Wular lake, one of the Asia’s largest fresh water lake, is situated in Bandipora district of J&K.
The forest, ecology and environment department had submitted a proposal to the State Cabinet for administrative approval for dredging and to strengthen embankment of the Wular lake.
Also, removal and grubbing of willow and other undesirable tree species from it and its feeder channels, an official spokesman said.
The GoM will be headed by the minister for forest, ecology and environment. Its other members are the minister for social welfare, the minister for youth services, the minister for education, the minister for finance, the Minister for Cooperative and Ladakh Affairs and the Minister for PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control.
