UDHAMPUR, Dec 3: Senior vice president of PHE Employees Association (Jammu province) and INTUC president for district Udhampur, Som Nath has alleged that Government was exploiting the PHE workers and denying them wages for the last 53 months.
Addressing a large meeting of PHE workers from various tehsils of district Udhampur and Reasi at PHE Complex Udhampur today, INTUC leader alleged that higher authorities in the PHE Department were indulging in most criminal and inhuman act as they are exploiting PHE daily wagers and other consolidated workers by taking work from them for the last about four years without paying them their hard earned money.
He alleged that this is the worst kind of exploitation and criminal act on the part of Govt and despite this all, the Human Rights activists and HR organisations have shut their eyes. The families of these workers are facing starvation and despite repeated representations to the higher officials and even to the minister and bureaucrats concerned, these people have not bothered to settle the issue and release wages of the poor workers. He said the PHE workers are unable to pay the school or tuition fee of their children.
Som Nath further said that BJP Government led by PM Modi has given a very popular slogan, “Beti Bachao, Beti Padao”. But it seems that the BJP and its leadership have no value for this slogan of Mr Modi. Such slogans are just for the public consumption. He criticised the Chief Engineer for his utter failure to release the wages of the PHE workers despite assurances.
The INTUC leader demanded release of pending wages of CP workers, implementation of Minimum Wages Act, removal of shortage of staff and change the designation of the employees as per their nature of work.
Senior trade unionists, Rattan Singh, Suraj Parkash, Baldev Raj, Ganesh Chand, Jagdish Magotra, Balbir Singh, Makhan Chand, Charan Dass , also spoke on the occasion.
