MENDHAR, May 31: The footbridge built at Sandote village in border area of Balakot in Mendhar sub-division of Poonch district is on the verge of collapse and accidents happen frequently on this bridge.
The bridge connecting Sandote to Lower Dargloon and other villages is a lifeline for the area. Many years ago, this bridge was built on the Nallah flowing through the village of Sandote, but now the condition of this bridge has become so bad that it can collapse any time and any major accident can happen.
The wood and iron used to build the protection wall of this bridge has been broken at many places. The iron rods in the wall have also broken and now people have to pass through the bridge without the security wall, which can endanger the life of the passers-by.
Locals of the area, Mohammad Javed Khan, Shahzad Ahmed Khan, Farooq Khan and others said that they have met the officials of the concerned department and the officials of the local administration many times and demanded repair of this bridge, but no one has taken initiative. Only false assurances were given. Due to failure to repair the bridge, people’s lives have been put at serious risk by the authorities. They demanded that the bridge should be repaired at the earliest.
