KATHUA, Mar 30: Former minister and State president of Nationalist Congress Party, Thakur Randhir Singh, who is also national president of Aromatic Plants Growers Association (India), has alleged that successive Governments in the State have failed to promote aromatic and medicinal plants.
In a press statement issued here today, Singh said that J&K state is highly rich in terms of presence of aromatic and medicinal plants but this potential is not being harnessed by the State Government. He said even the previous Governments have not taken any interest to promote these plats and help the farmer community in the State. They must learn from the Uttrakhand and Himachal Pradesh States.
Singh pointed out that China is exporting herbs worth one lakh core and Thailand worth Rs 50,000 crore to the other countries but unfortunately, India’s share is hardly Rs 345 crores. He said nearly 62 types of essential oil plants species are available in J&K and they have high export potential but the concerned departments are sleeping over the matter. He said that most of the J&K farmers will be benefitted if they are involved in growing aromatic, herbal and medicinal plants. He urged upon the State Govt to give stress on this sector for generating huge income for the State.
