JAMMU, Dec 19: The Government employees and workers from different departments and Corporations and the pensioners today held a massive joint protest against the Government and took out a grand rally towards Civil Secretariat here.
The protest under the banner of J&K Govt Employees, Casual Labours, Workers and Pensioners United Platform was held at MAM Stadium, near Jewel Chowk to press the State Govt for immediate settlement of burning demands of state working class which are pending since long. They alleged that the Coalition Govt in the State has miserably failed to uphold the commitment with the most deserving lot of casual labours of all the departments numbering more than 60,000 despite assurances on the floor of the `House’ and also during discussion with the representatives of the working class.
The Union leaders pointed out that under such situation when the prices of essential commodities are touching the sky and 7th Pay Commission has been implemented by the Central Govt for the employees, the State Govt employees / public sector workers, casual labours and Anganwari workers also deserve the same treatment at par with the Central workers.
Hundreds of casual labours, employees, Anganwari workers and pensioners under the leadership of their respective associations / unions assembled in MA Stadium and raised slogans in support of their demands urging the Govt for immediate settlement of the burning demands. They moved towards secretariat but were stopped at Indira Chowk by strong contingent of Police force. The police raised barricades and concertina wire to restrict the movement of employees towards Shalamar Road. The workers dispersed from there after brief scuffle with cops.
Earlier, while addressing the massive rally senior Trade Union leaders Mohammed Gafoor Dar convener of the united platform, Kulwant Singh, Hari Singh, Tanveer Hussain, Syed Gulam Rassol Geelani, Abdul Ahad Bandroo, Akhil Sharma, Rajan Sharma, Rajinder Kumar, Nazir Ahmed Molvi, Bhanu Partap Singh, Subash Chander, Ratna Devi, Swarna Choudhary, Shazia Akhter, Yashpal and Subash Chander criticized the Govt for ignoring the issues of the working class. They warned the State Govt not to test the patience of state working class particularly most poor class of casual labours of all the departments including Anganwani workers and helpers who are suffering badly for their regularization policy and pending wages and declared that the next program of the United Platform will be announced shortly.
The major demands of the employees and temporary workers include framing of regularization policy for need based casual labours of all the departments engaged after 1994, payment of regular wages under proper wages head / including contractual vocational instructors, implementation of 7th Pay Commission to the State Govt employees / public sector workers and pensioners of the state, enhancement of honorarium of Anagnwari workers and helpers and their promotions as per their recruitment rules.
