JAMMU, May 8: Government is commited to provide better and improved services to the consumers. This was stated by the Minister for Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution and Tribal Affairs Ch. Zulfkar Ali while chairing a meeting of officers of various departments and representatives of various NGOs to chalk out an effective strategy to streamline the essential service delivery system across the State.
Commissioner, JMC Jammu Soujanya Sharma, Director CAPD G. S. Chib, Director School Education Simrandeep Singh, senior officers of CAPD, Health, Horticulture, Drug & Control, Metrology Department, representatives of Oil Companies, President Consumer Protection Organization, members of Consultative Committee of Prices and supplies were also present in the meeting.
The meeting reviewed various vital issues including registration of nursing homes, laboratories, rationalization of rates charged for the service rendered to patients, free availability of medicines, checking of medicines being sold by chemists and other medical agencies for quality and rates, fixation of rates of vegetable and fruits, fee structures of private schools, delivery mechanism of LPG Cylinders, etc.
The Minister said that the health sector has been flagged as one of the most important sectors which needs concentrated attention for improvement, expansion and consolidation.
Deputy Director Health Department Gurjeet Singh informed the Minister that presently 48 Private Nursing Homes and 556 private laboratories clinic labs/collection centres are functioning in Jammu division.
The Minister also reviewed the status of Drugs and Control Department and the concerned Deputy Director informed the Minister that on daily basis the department collects the samples from the market for further investigation.
The Minister directed the Drug Control Department to collect the sample on routine basis to check the sale of sub standard drugs in the market. He also said that attention has been paid to upgrade the medicare facilities in the State and provide the quality medicines to the consumers and also protect the rights of people.
Zulfkar instructed the Commissioner JMC and Drug Controller to work with coordination to check the quality and prices of essential items available in the market.
The Minister also reviewed the delivery mechanism of LPG Cylinders from the representatives of various Oil Companies. He directed the Oil Companies to ensure timely distribution of LPG Cylinders to the consumers and also check that there is no use of domestic cylinders for commercial purpose.
During the meeting, representatives of various NGOs also suggested various measures for better delivery system of essentials.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Zulfkar asked the concerned authorities to chalkout modalities for effective curbing the adulteration in the market. He said that an effective monitoring mechanism has been put in place to provide the quality and quantity essential items to the common man.
