SRINAGAR: Minister of State for PDD, PHE and I&FC, Syed Farooq Ahmad Andrabi, today said that the Government is committed to provide adequate water and power supply to people during winters and is taking number of steps to augment the power position in the State.
The Minister said this while chairing a high level review meeting with the officers of PDD, PHE, and I&FC Departments. The meeting took stock of functioning of these Departments in the wake of heavy snowfall in Kashmir.
Mr. Andrabi was informed that out of 232, PDD has restored 203 receiving stations and work on rest is going on in full swing. He directed the PDD officials to work on war footing so that people don’t suffer in these harsh climatic conditions. He also directed them to supply power as per schedule.
During the meeting, Chief Engineer PHE said that the Department has 600 lift water schemes out of which 369 have DG lift set and 231 schemes run under electricity from PDD Department. The Minister directed the PHE officials to work in coordination with PDD so that lift water schemes run smoothly.
While briefing about the water level in Jhelum River, Chief Engineer I&FC Department said that upto 5PM today water level in the river was 2.80 feet at Ram Munshi Bagh Srinagar, which is well below the threat level. He directed the officials to keep a close vigil on all rivers and streams across the valley and take necessary measures in this regard.
Later, the Minister visited TRC, Raj Bagh and Bemina power stations and took stock of the present power scenario in the wake of heavy snowfall is the Valley.
Chief Engineers of PHE, PDD, I&FC, Superintending Engineers, Xens and other concerned officials were present in the meeting.
