Govt committed to improve condition of farmers: Lone

JAMMU, Mar 9: The Minister of Agriculture Production Ghulam Nabi Lone today said that Government will make every effort to improve the condition of the farming community trough all required interventions.
Interacting with the officers and staff of Agriculture Farm Chinore during his maiden visit today, he said agriculture is back bone of State economy and the Government will pay all attention in boosting the agri production in the State through latest techniques. He reviewed the functioning of Agriculture Department and seed production sector. This was his maiden visit to the farm after assuming office.
He inspected the condition of wheat, oats, gram, mustard and potato crops standing in the field and expressed satisfaction over the work of the farm staff.
Later he flagged of 100 farmers group under Krishi Darshan Exposure visit programme to various pioneering institutions of North India at Krishi Bhawan here.
Interacting with farmers on the occasion he said the tour will be beneficial for the farmers as the interaction with scientists and researchers of the institution they will be visiting will provide them information about the latest techniques about increasing production and productivity of the crops being grown in their area.
Such trips also help farmers in improving agriculture income through improved pre and post crop harvest management practices being adopted and promoted.
He expressed his satisfaction over the steps taken by Agriculture Department for promotion of awareness and training among farmers.
He was accompanied by Director Agriculture Dr S S Jamwal who apprised him of the strides made in the quality seed production of crops at farm despite being located at vulnerable international border.
