JAMMU, May 4: In a significant decision, the J&K Government has ordered discontinuation of the use of plastic material in the State offices and official functions.
According to a Government circular in this regard, all the Administrative Secretaries have been requested to ensure the use of non-plastic material/stationery items, like paper, hand-made paper, jute and other biodegradable substitutes in the departments and subordinate Administrative units under their charge and also the official functions. They have also been requested to ensure strict and immediate compliance of these instructions in this regard.
As per the circular, there is an urgent need for switching over to the non-plastic and eco-friendly material as improper and unscientific disposal of the plastic waste have serious consequences in the long run.
