Govt announces ex-gratia of Rs 30 lakh for polling staff

JAMMU, May 17: The State Government today announced payment of ex-gratia/ compensation to the tune of Rs 30 lakh to the family of polling personnel deployed on election duty, in case of death in violent acts, during General Elections 2019.
An official spokesman said that the GAD, vide its order No. 592-GAD of 2019, dated 17-5-2019, accorded sanction of ex-gratia compensation in favour of the State Government employees, security personnel including Central Armed Police Forces, State Armed Police, State Police, Home Guards etc and the drivers/ cleaners of the hired vehicles deployed for election duty during the conduct of General Elections to the Lok Sabha-2019.
The spokesman further revealed that in case of death due to violent acts of extremists or anti-social elements like, road mines, bomb blasts, armed attacks etc, the family of the deceased polling staff member would get ex-gratia/relief to the tune of Rs 30 lakhs. In case of death while on duty, his / her family would get Rs 15 lakhs ex-gratia/ compensation.
But in case of permanent disability, like loss of limb, eye-sight etc, the rate of relief/ compensation would be Rs 7.5 lakhs while in case of permanent disability caused by extremists or anti-social elements, the relief amount will be Rs 15 lakhs. The ex-gratia compensation will be paid by the Chief Electoral Officer, J&K to the NoKs/ concerned Govt employees/security force personnel etc.
