NEW DELHI, Dec 7: Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), MoS PMO, Personnel, Public Grievances & Pensions, Atomic Energy and Space, Dr Jitendra Singh said here today that the Governor’s rule in Jammu & Kashmir has expedited the development activity in the State.
Speaking to media persons on the sidelines of a function this afternoon, Dr Jitendra Singh lauded Governor Satya Pal Malik for not only having initiated a focused approach in attending different issues, but also having taken several progressive decisions, which, for example, significantly include the decisions relating to the Jammu & Kashmir Bank.
Referring to historic Shahpur-Kandi Dam and Ujh Multipurpose Projects in district Kathua, Dr Jitendra Singh said, these projects had been stalled for nearly four decades and were revived following the Centre’s intervention, but still awaited to be taken up by the State Cabinet and it was only by the State Administrative Council of the Governor that these projects received the desired push. With the timelines having been fixed, he said, the irrigation and power generation from these projects is expected to start within the next three years and will prove to be a game-changer for the entire region.
Dr Jitendra Singh also referred to the priority shown by the Governor’s regime for the Devika river project of Udhampur, he said, the project had been sanctioned by the Modi Government under National River Rejuvenation Plan (NRRP) way back in February 2017, but could not pick up because of administrative delays on the part of the State Government and it is only during the last few weeks of the Governor’s rule, that the project has been put on track and the tenders have been floated for the execution of the work, which is expected to start soon.
Important Central Projects like National Institute of High Altitude Medicinal Plants at Bhaderwah and the AIIMS at Jammu were delayed because of land acquisition issues which also have now been cleared. The foundation stone for the National Institute of High Altitude Medicinal Plants at Bhaderwah has now been scheduled for 15th of this month.
Dr Jitendra Singh also lauded the Governor’s regime for according high priority to Modi Government’s flagship programmes like Ayushman Bharat and rural electrification. While supporting the Governor’s crusade against corruption, Dr Jitendra Singh said, his Party will always support every move against land encroachers and those involved in misappropriation of public funds.
