Jammu, Apr 18: Governor, N.N. Vohra, President of Indian Red Cross Society, J&K, felicitated all organizations, Governmental and private, which provided support in sponsoring and organizing the Red Cross Mela.
A function in this regard was held here at Raj Bhavan, today. Usha Vohra, First Lady, was present on the occasion.
The Governor, on the occasion, said that Red Cross is a very important organization which works for the welfare of the humanity. He observed that, for obtaining such an objective, substantial resources are required by the District, Regional and State level branches of the society, to be able to provide timely relief in the case of any exigency arising due to natural or manmade disasters. He appealed to the banking sector, commercial organizations and the rich elements in the society to espouse the noble objectives of the Red Cross Society.
The Governor appreciated the initiatives taken by Roma Wani, Honorary General Secretary, IRCS, J&K, in the past year to boost Red Cross activities all over the State, particularly her efforts in setting up Jan Aushadhi Stores for providing generic medicines at fair prices to the sick and needy.
Shantmanu, Chairman of the Red Cross Society, Jammu, presented a detailed report on the activities of the Society in the past years. He said that the Red Cross Mela -2013, had generated funds to the tune of Rs. 23.50 lakh. The Governor lauded the leadership role of the Divisional Commissioner and hoped that the Society would be able to do even better this year.
