JAMMU, Sept 8: Stating that Government is negligent towards Jammu Hemophiliacs, Hemophilia Federation of Jammu (HFJ) today highlighted concerns of Hemophilia patients of Jammu.
Addressing media persons here today, general secretary, HFJ, Sanjay Chawla said that Hemophilia patients, who are already having multiple disabilities, are struggling at multiple fronts and right care to them seems elusive.
Chawla flayed the Government for closing down the State of the art Hemophilia Treatment Centre in Department of Pathology, GMC Jammu, which was being run by well trained doctors for last three years under the directions of J&K High Court.
He said that Government had spent more than 15 lakh on the Centre, which had gone waste by closing it. “The adult patients are now treated in Disaster Management Ward, where they are exposed to fatal infections”, he added.
Chawla also alleged that the GMC Jammu and SMGS Hospital are providing low quality Anti-Hemophilia factors, which puts life of Hemophiliacs in serious danger of getting avoidable infections. He said that J&K Medical Supplies Corporation has chosen the product without consulting experts and insisting to let patients consume it.
“The quality of these Anti-Hemophilia Factors is highly questionable and there are multiple quality complaints and adverse reactions with this product in other States also. There is a growing concern regarding plasma derived products as there are several cases of fake plasma which has been widely reported”, the HFJ general secretary said.
“SMHS Srinagar had also faced the same issue but they addressed it by not using this low quality Factor and instead opted for high Purity factors that was being used earlier everywhere in J&K”, Chawla said, and criticized the Government for being non-sympathetic towards Jammu patients and ignoring plea of several Hemophiliacs.
