Gopashtami celebrated with reverence, religious fervor

JAMMU, Nov 1: Gopashtami – the festival dedicated to Lord Krishna and cows, was celebrated here today with reverence and religious fervor.
People worshipped cows by garlanding them and cleaning their feet besides offering special fodders. A large of devotees, particularly women were seen visiting nearby cow sheds for offering special fodders and performing the rituals associated with Gopashtami.
On the occasion, a special function was organized by Jammu and Kashmir Gau Raksha Samiti at Ambphalla Goushala under the chairmanship of Raj Kumar Gupta.
The program began with Goupujan, which was followed by Havan, Satsang, felicitation ceremony and Bhandara. Raj Kumar Gupta threw light on the history and relevance of Gopashtami, which is celebrated to mark the occasion when Lord Krishna’s father Nand Maharaj had entrusted him the responsibility of serving the mother cow.
The Gopashtami festival was also celebrated with reverence and gaiety at the holy shrine Trimurti Gaushala Gurah Pattan. Special cow worship was performed by Mahant Yashpal of Baba Ballo Ji Devsthan Mathwar. A large number of cow devotees participated in the worship. Former Minister Choudhary Sukhnandan also paid obeisance on the occasion.
Trimurti Gaushala has around 40 cows whose care is taken after by Trimurti Gaushala Committee headed by President Ravi Kumar Verma, Chairman Gopal Sharma, General Secretary Parshotam Sharma, Sevadar Dr Rahul Sharma, Sonu Sharma, Kar Chib, Bishan Dass, Bola Ram, Bhushan Kumar, Ashwani Sharma and others were also present on the occasion. Ravi Kumar Verma said that the Gaushala Committee does not accept any donation in cash or account but only fodder etc for the cows.
