SAMBA, July 18: The irate people from Gokhan Chak and adjoining villages in Vijaypur tehsil of Samba district today held a massive demonstration at Ramgarh and blocked road disrupting vehicular traffic in protest against the attack on two villagers by Gujjars yesterday.
Hundreds of agitating villagers assembled at Ramgarh this morning squatted on the road and raised slogans against the Government. The protestors were demanding arrest of the Gujjars responsible for attacking two villagers yesterday and transfer of SHO Ramgarh.
The senior vice president of BJP Chander Parkash Ganga and senior Congress leader & ex Minister Manjit Singh also joined the protest and criticized the police for its failure in maintaining law and order situation.
Mr Ganga accused the NC of shielding some police officers who have failed to deliver and protect the common masses.
The shopkeepers also downed shutters of their business establishments in support of the protestors. The protestors dispersed at 2-30 pm after SSP Samba Nissar Khan visited the area and assured them that the culprits responsible for attacking the two villagers will be arrested and SHO Ramgarh will be shifted.
The protestors alleged that newly planted paddy crop of some farmers in the village Gokhan Chak was destroyed yesterday by the cattle which were being grazed by some gujjars in the area. This was strongly resisted by the farmers who had an altercation with Gujjars. However the Gujjars instead of admitting their mistake pounced upon the farmers and attacked them with lathis resulting in injuries to two farmers Bahadur Singh and Amarjit Singh. The duo was taken to Ramgarh Hospital for treatment and later shifted to GMC Jammu.
