Srinagar, Aug 1: In a bid to improve the attendance of its staff which has time and again been under question, the Government Medical College (GMC), Srinagar has gone tough on the individuals who have been found absent from their duties from time to time.
In this regard, a number of individuals who have been found on ‘authorized absence,’ have been identified by the GMC administration and are being served with the Show Cause notices, directing them to explain their position or face the action.
There have been cases ranging from the clerical staff, paramedics and even doctors who were found absent from their duties in the GMC & Associated Hospitals in Srinagar over a period of time which has been badly affecting the much-needed patient care across all the hospitals that fall under the direct administrative control of the GMC.
Officials said that it is a continuous process; however the same has been expedited lately and such cases are being identified and they are being asked to clear their stand with regard to the absence.
There have been several cases where the doctors who were selected in various departments such as anaesthesia and neuro-surgery, but have not reported to their duties despite submitting their joining reports. Such individuals have also been asked to come up with the reasons.
Also, there are cases, particularly from the Super Speciality Hospital, Srinagar where the employees went on leave without even getting the required sanction in this regard.
Interestingly, these employees are from the sections that are already facing a dearth of employees resulting in a further dent in the quality of patient care in hospital which is catering to the huge rush of the patients thronging in from various parts of the Valley.
However, taking note of such misconducts, the GMC has swung into action, pulling up such employees, who are ironically absent from their duties since April, warning them of stern action in case they fail to explain their position and resume their duties back.
Further, also, doctors appointed under academic arrangement last year who have failed to join the respective departments till date have also been served with show-cause notice.
The officials said that the GMC Administration is in no way going to accept such behaviour from any employee and those who are found violating the norms. “The patient care is paramount and any laxity in this regard is not going to be accepted,” the officials said.
On the other side, there are regular complaints pouring in with regard to the undue absence of employees particularly the paramedics in various GMC & Associated Hospitals affecting the patient care.
