Laparoscopic Hysterectomy is a Gynaecological surgical procedure, which involves removing the uterus and cervix (neck of the womb) using a keyhole (Laparoscopic) technique and removing it through the vagina. We may also remove the ovaries, fallopian tubes and pelvic lymph nodes.
A total hysterectomy is usually the preferred option over a subtotal hysterectomy, as removing the cervix means there’s no risk of developing cervical cancer at a later date.
Laparoscopic Hysterectomy is a preferred choice over traditional hysterectomy because of shorter hospital stay, faster recovery, typically patients have less pain, little to no blood loss, lower risk of abdominal infection and other complications.
Minimal access, Laparoscopic Gynaecological surgeries will now be performed routinely as a part of commitment of the college to promote minimal access procedures.
