JAMMU, Jan 20: Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu has started Student Mentorship Programe (SMP) wherein two senior faculty members shall be mentoring a group of 10 students. This program will start from the students of first prof.examination and the mentors shall keep mentoring them till the completion of their final year MBBS.
This program aims to support the MBBS students to improve their learning, to offers students insight into the profession and make them understand the challenges and opportunities present in the college/campus, to develop the qualities of professionalism and ethics, helping them cope up with the pressures & stresses of life as a medical student, guiding & preparing them for their future careers.
Dr. Shashi Sudhan Sharma, Principal, Govt Medical College Jammu took a meeting today and issued an order in which 36 faculty members have been enlisted for this mentorship program for the 180 MBBS Students of first Prof .
She said that it is a unique initiative and it is for the first time in J&K that such type of program is being starting. Students will get to learn a lot from the experience of seniors like how to handle stress, problems of academics or personal problems etc as faculty from all specialties are involved in this program.
She said that two WhatsApp groups will be formed, in which one group will be of mentors only who will discuss among themselves how to improvise & improve this program and second group will be of mentors, students and their parents for feedback and immediate redressal of the issues of the Students.
She further said that this program will be for every batch from now onwards and the formal induction function of students and mentors will be on 28th January.
