JAMMU, Oct 4: Department of Anaesthesia and Critical Care, Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu, in collaboration with the Indian Society of Anaesthesiologists (ISA) Jammu City Branch, organized an academic event featuring a Pro-Con Debate and a Postgraduate Quiz on Saturday, ahead of World Anaesthesia Day.
The programme was attended by over 100 participants, including HoDs, consultants, residents, and postgraduates from GMC Jammu, ASCOMS, Narayana Hospital, and AIIMS Jammu. The event began with a welcome address by Dr Ashwani Kumar, who highlighted the importance of interactive academic learning. Dr Anita Vig, HoD Anaesthesia, GMC Jammu, added that such initiatives keep students motivated and updated with recent advancements.
Principal GMC Jammu, Dr Ashutosh Gupta, graced the occasion as chief guest and stressed the growing role of robotic-assisted surgeries, new gadgets, and the need for young doctors to be technologically adept.
In the Pro-Con Debate, eight participants presented their views. The session was moderated by Dr Renu Wakhloo, Dr Naine and Dr Kunal, while the judges were Dr Anita Vig, Dr Nandita Mehta and Dr Vanilla Chopra. Dr Aneesha Gupta, PG from GMC Jammu, secured the first prize while Dr Tabeen from ASCOMS was declared runner-up.
The Quiz, featuring four teams, was moderated by Dr Updesh, Dr Jasmeen and Dr Mehak. Narayana Hospital’s team of Dr Sarvesh Singh, Dr Barkha Jaiswal and Dr Jahangir Ahmad clinched first place while GMC Jammu’s team emerged runner-up.
The event was attended by senior faculty, including Dr Nandita Mehta, Dr Smriti Gulati, Dr Anju Jamwal, Dr Madan Katoch, Dr Sangeeta Singh and Dr Vanilla Chopra. The programme was smoothly coordinated by Dr Isha Gupta.
The vote of thanks was delivered by Dr Updesh Kumar, general secretary, ISA Jammu.
