JAMMU, Dec 7: A screening camp and patient awareness programme for Hemophilia and other coagulation related disorders was held at GMC. The camp was conducted by comprehensive Hemophilia Care Centre, Department of Pathology, GMC Jammu in collaboration with Society for Hemophilia Care (SHC) India, New Delhi.
During the camp large number of patients and their parents along with doctors, including physiotherapist Dr Basant and faculty members particularly form Department of Pathology and paramedical staff participated.
Blood samples were collected from the patients to assess the factor level as well as inhibitor status. Principal GMC, Jammu, Dr Zahid Geelani was the chief guest and Vijay Kaul, Executive Director SHC India was the guest of honour.
Dr K K Kaul chief Nodal Officer, CHCC , GMC and Professor and HoD of Pathology under whose guidance entire programme was held gave a detailed account about the Hemophilia burden in Jammu and also highlighted the importance of such camps. The Principal GMC, Jammu Dr Zahid Geelani assured full assistance and help in achieving the goal for the welfare of these patients. He also assured that the will take up the matter with the concerned administrative Department.
Executive Director, SHC India Vijay Kaul delivered a highly informative lecture regarding inheritance of this disease and measures of its prevention. This was followed by a detailed lecture by Dr Sunil Raina on clinical presentation, diagnosis and management of Hemophilia patents. Vijay Kaul highlighted the importance of using high quality purified and safe products in these patients.
He impressed that these factors should be procured following guidelines World Federation of Hemophilia so that safety and purity of product is not compromised. He cautioned that some products are available in the market which are cheaper but don’t meet the international standards. This was followed by question answer session with the patients and their attendants. A Counseling session was also held for a group of young hemophilia carriers and first aid kits were also distributed to the patients.
