Srinagar, Mar 13: In order to enhance patient services for individuals in need of corrective surgeries and other necessary procedures, the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at GMC Baramulla is making a significant impact by expanding the access to such surgeries.
For patients in North Kashmir, in particular, the Department is proving to be a boon, as it eliminates the need for travel to other locations and results in cost savings.
The Department conducts surgeries on patients who have suffered facial trauma due to physical assaults or falls from heights, resulting in bone fractures.
“In such cases, patients often present with broken bones, such as those around the eyes, nose, or cheekbones, or maxilla and mandible fractures. We address these cases and ensure they receive the necessary care,” said Dr. Nahida, a Senior Resident in the Department.
Dr. Nahida explained that such fractures are corrected using plates, which are covered under the AB-PMJAY scheme, meaning patients do not have to bear any expenses for these corrective surgeries.

It is noteworthy that previously, trauma or assault patients in need of corrective surgeries had to be transferred to other locations, incurring significant expenses. However, with the services at GMC Baramulla, people are now breathing a sigh of relief.
An attendant of a patient who recently underwent surgery expressed satisfaction, stating that the services available at GMC Baramulla made the process easier.
“It was not possible just a few years ago to have such surgeries done here in North Kashmir, but things have changed with the assistance of the government, which has made these surgeries free,” he said.
Under the leadership of Dr. Zaffaruallah Beigh, the department also performs surgeries to remove cysts, tumors, and space infections in both the upper and lower jaws.
“There are numerous surgeries performed in this branch of surgery at GMC Baramulla, all covered under the AB-PMJAY scheme. Importantly, the hospital aims to provide seamless services to patients in North Kashmir and ensure they receive comprehensive care in one place, officials said.
