Srinagar, Sept 18: The Government Medical College (GMC), Anantnag, has initiated the 3rd National Pharmacovigilance Week today, which will continue until September 23. Several activities are planned during this period, including raising awareness about Adverse Drug Reactions (ADRs) among the general public.
Dr (Prof) Anjum Farhana, Principal of the GMC, stated that the annual event aims to promote awareness about pharmacovigilance and enhance public confidence in medication safety. This year’s theme for the National Pharmacovigilance Week is “Boosting Public Confidence in Pharmacovigilance.”
Dr Sami Magray, Head of the Department of Pharmacology, emphasized the vital role of pharmacovigilance in healthcare, ensuring the safe and effective use of medications.
Regarding the activities planned for the week, the hospital will focus on raising awareness about ADRs, which is one of the program’s key objectives.
“ADRs can have serious consequences, and it’s crucial for individuals to recognize and report them. GMC Anantnag will be disseminating information on how to identify and report ADRs, both online and through outreach programs,” stated GMC.
In addition to awareness campaigns, GMC will conduct a Continuing Medical Education (CME) session on drug safety and a Quiz on Pharmacovigilance to enhance the knowledge of healthcare professionals and students.
Present at the campaign’s launch were Medical Superintendent GMC Anantnag, Dr. Malik Aibid Hussain, Dr. (Prof) Sajad Majid Qazi, Dr. Sami Magray, Dr. Nasreen Jan, Dr. Tajali Shora, Mr. Urfan Manzoor, and other medical and paramedical students.
