JAMMU, Dec 14: The General Line Teachers Forum (GLTF) today held a meeting wherein the members condemned the most unmindful and detrimental steps taken by Educational authorities and Government to close down the one of the oldest schools in Jammu city for making parking place.
Neeraj Sharma, the president of the Forum, while addressing said that it is very unfortunate and uncouth to mention that the education authorities have decided to close and shift one of the famous and oldest schools of Jammu located in the heart of city and convert it into parking place for the rich people whose children are never admitted in the Government schools.
He said that the closing down of the Government High School, City Chowk shows the selfish and narrow mindset of few as they prefer business than the education of future generations and well being of the society.
Sharma said that it is gross violation of ‘Right To Education’ for which the State as well Centre always boast off. He expressed surprise how the authorities can they think of closing or shifting of a school, which was running successfully.
Sharma further added that there are already about seven parking places  viz; Shalimar parking opposite Mahajan Sabha, City Chowk parking, Super Bazaar parking, Old Hospital Road parking, SMGS Hospital parking, Rani park parking, Parade Women College parking, besides road side parkings in the main bazaars like Raghunath Bazaar, Kanak Mandi, etc. All these parking slots are zero to fifty meters away from the school and have sufficient space for the purpose and still the authorities have decided to close the school.
“It seems that authorities and Government are hand in gloves with some Parking mafia and local political functionaries of the area”, he said and demanded that the decision be withdrawn immediately so that the faith and aspirations of people of area are restored.
